What is ISO 14083?

ISO 14083 is a comprehensive standard that provides guidelines for quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transportation activities. It aims to ensure accurate and transparent GHG emissions calculations across various modes of transport, promoting environmental accountability and consistency in emissions reporting. This standard is critical for businesses looking to assess and manage their carbon footprint related to transportation.

The benefits of aligning with ISO 14083 include:

  • Improved accuracy and consistency in GHG emissions reporting.

  • Enhanced credibility and trust with stakeholders due to standardized reporting.

  • Better insights into emissions sources and opportunities for reduction.

How to use the ISO 14083 methodologies?

Note: Changes to the methodology settings in your instance will only apply to future calculations. To recalculate historic emissions, please contact support@thrustcarbon.com

Navigate to the settings of your instance and click into the "Methodology" page from the list on the left hand side of the page. You will see the below page which states all the methodology configurations for your instance.

Click into the "Methodology configuration" box

The below pop-out will appear. To enable ISO methodologies tick the box highlighted below.

Once you have checked this box you will see that Well-to-tank is also automatically enabled, this is because it is a mandatory part of the calculation to be ISO 14083 compliant.

The default air methodology assigned is ICAO+ with DEFRA used as a fallback if ICAO+ cannot be achieved. It is possible to change the air methodology use just DEFRA.

Once you are happy with your selections, click save. This new configuration will be applied to any new segments that are added to the instance.
