Spotlight on…

1. Airline Meals

Relevant to:

  • Emissions API users

What is it?

Thrust Carbon has introduced the automated process of calculating carbon emissions from a traveller’s in-flight meal. This innovative approach empowers users to meticulously report emissions, tailored to the travel class, including detailed breakdowns for full meals, snacks (whether hot or cold), breakfast varieties, and beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic, hot). This granularity ensures that every aspect of in-flight dining is accounted for, providing unparalleled accuracy in carbon footprint assessment.

This feature can be requested via the API:

2. Water Usage Segment

Relevant to:

  • Thrust Events users

What is it?

This segment accounts for emissions associated with water consumption, providing insights into the environmental impact of water usage at events.

How can I access it?

To add a Water Usage segment to your event, navigate to the segments page and click on the “single segment” button. Under the “segment type” drop down there will be the option to choose “Water Usage”. You will be able to choose from a range of units to conform with the data you have received from the venue or utility bill. Next simply input the volume of water usage at the event and click save.

3. Google Travel-Impact-Model (TIM) Methodology

Relevant to:

  • Emissions API users

What is it?

The Travel-Impact-Model, developed by Google’s Travel Sustainability team, leverages multiple external data sources. Thrust Carbon has incorporated this methodology into our platform to enhance our support for diverse methodologies, enabling clients to select the most relevant and accurate approach for their needs. The benefit is that an existing customer or integration can enable Google TIM without having to do any extra work or integration with Thrust Carbon - it effectively works out of the box.

How can I access it?

This methodology can be applied when requested through the API.

"methodology_requested": "travel_impact_model"

Note: Google TIM is available only for future air emissions calculations and does not support 'historical' calculations.

Updates

Other New Features

EV Charging Stations

This exciting new feature will provide Thrust Carbon users with comprehensive insights into EV charging locations, simplifying electric vehicle travel and aiding in accommodation decisions during trips.

By searching for locations such as hotels, the API provides detailed information on the availability of charging stations, including the number of stations, types of chargers, connector types, and operators. Each location will also feature a Thrust Carbon score, indicating the quality of EV charging station coverage in the surrounding area based on these factors.

This enhancement will make EV travel more seamless, eliminating the worry of where to charge your vehicle next.

What’s next?

Engage 2.0

Launching soon our new and improved employee facing dashboard, Thrust Engage! This product will centralise travel carbon emissions data, enhancing visibility and education on sustainable travel practices and company goals. Thrust Engage empowers individual travellers to see their impact alongside their team's, fostering responsibility throughout the organisation. In addition, the team leads view enables heads of teams to have full visibility of the emissions originating from their team members.

Thrust Engage will translate emissions data into relatable terms, identify high-emission travel modes, and offer actionable advice to reduce emissions. The data is broken down into bite size pieces ensuring relevance to both those who are sustainability gurus or new to the subject. It will also communicate company targets and internal budgeting, promoting transparency, healthy competition, and informed decision-making in line with corporate sustainability objectives.

Assurance Admin Permission

We’re excited to be releasing a new user permission level which will facilitate external assurance processes. Enterprise and Premium customers will be able to designate an Assurance Admin within their organisational settings. This admin will have access to more granular data points for each segment calculated in the Thrust Calculator, including the values and sources of the factors used. This capability will streamline the process of verifying travel calculations with external parties.
