What is it?
Well-to-tank (WTT) emissions refer to the greenhouse gases emitted during the extraction, production, transportation, and refining of fuel before it is used in a vehicle.
The significance of addressing WTT emissions is crucial as they represent a significant portion of the travel industry's carbon footprint, often accounting for up to 20% of a flight's total emissions. Recognizing and managing these emissions enables businesses to make more informed and sustainable travel decisions.
Thrust Carbon has adopted a multi-methodology approach by incorporating both DEFRA and Nature Communications methodologies for calculating WTT emissions. This approach ensures the provision of the most accurate and relevant data to our clients.

What is it?
The Thrust Calculator has enhanced its hotel dataset through the integration of additional data from Greengage, known for its rigorous quality criteria and auditing processes. Greengage certifies over 300 primarily UK-based hotels, ensuring they meet stringent sustainability standards. These certifications will now be accessible within the City Analyser, further enriching the accuracy and reliability of the TC-HSI (Thrust Carbon - Hotel Sustainability Index) scores for hotels featured in the Thrust Carbon dataset. This improvement reflects our commitment to offering precise and trustworthy sustainability insights for accommodations worldwide.
How can I access it?
The Greengage Certifications have been seamlessly integrated into the appropriate hotels within our database. To explore the sustainability scores of hotels in various regions, we invite you to use the City Analyser feature on Thrust Carbon. For detailed guidance on accessing and navigating this feature, please refer to the following article.

What’s next?
Airline Meal Emissions
Introducing our upcoming feature: Automatic calculation of airline meal emissions. With this new functionality, your organisation will be able to choose to integrate detailed insights into the carbon footprint of in-flight meals, based on flight data. This will enable a more thorough assessment of the environmental impact associated with air travel, ensuring a deeper understanding and facilitating more informed decisions towards sustainability.
New Thrust Events Segment Types
Coming next quarter will be two new segment types for our Thrust Events users, designed to capture a more comprehensive view of an event's emissions. These enhancements include:
Water Segment: This segment accounts for emissions associated with water consumption, providing insights into the environmental impact of water usage at events.
Electricity Segment: This segment measures the emissions resulting from electricity consumption, offering a clearer understanding of the carbon footprint linked to energy use.
These additions ensure a more holistic assessment of an event's environmental impact, aligning with our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Bulk Upload Multiple Segment Types
We're excited to introduce an upcoming feature designed to significantly enhance the data upload process to the Thrust Calculator. With the upgraded bulk uploader, users will be able to upload various travel types simultaneously, eliminating the previous requirement to separate travel types into separate uploads. This improvement will streamline the process, substantially accelerating the speed of data uploads and enriching the overall experience on our platform. We believe this enhancement will make a considerable difference in the efficiency of processing travel data.
